Langkawi Underwater World
As soon as you enter Langkawi Underworld, you will see the Preview Tanks, which contain the Arapaima Jurassic fish, which is among the largest freshwater fishes in the world. You can also find the Freshwater Stingray and the Tapah Fish or Wallago Catfish.
In this section of the Underwater World, you will descend into a 15-meter-long tunnel filled with a variety of endangered fish species, including giant stingrays, giant trevally, and giant grouper. You can also find other schools of fish and the famous olive ridley turtles in this section.
The Koi Pond is situated in a lush and colorful tropical landscape, complete with the splashing sound of a waterfall. You will be greeted by a waterfall that empties into a freshwater pond as you cross a little wooden bridge. Here, you can find Japanese carp, Sultan fish, and cichlids.
The Sub-Antarctic Exhibit features Langkawi Underwater World’s biggest draw, the Rockhopper Penguins. They became known for hopping from rock to rock, which is how they received their name. The smallest of the crested penguins, these adorable creatures are also referred to as "Rockies."
The Sunken Ship Exhibit or Hexagonal Tank is an enormous 70,000-liter tank that contains numerous aquatic species. The stars of this exhibit, however, are the deadly and dangerous black-tip shark and the white-tip shark which tread the waters among the other inhabitants of this tank.
One of the living wonders of the fragile ecosystem of the ocean is this underwater coral garden, which is a riot of lovely colors. Visitors can get a glimpse of the symbiotic interactions that take place among the residents of the coral reefs by looking at clownfish, damselfish, wrasse, and various corals.
A variety of freshwater fishes are displayed in the area, which comprises three linked tanks with a river-flowing design. You get to see freshwater species from around the world including the Redtailed catfish, Bala shark, and Albino Patin. You can also find reptiles like the Chinese Water Dragon, Leopard gecko, and several snake species.
The Tropical Rainforest Section is an aviary that lets you walk through and marvel at birds like the colorful flamingos, mischievous ruddy shelduck, pheasant, etc. You can watch cockatoos, macaws, and doves flying about. You may also find adorable marmosets, giant goramy, Arowana, knife fish, and many more exotic tropical animals.
The Temperate Section includes lively African Penguins and South American Fur Seals. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe African Penguins swimming around in a setting that is as similar to their natural habitat as possible by walking through an 8-meter tunnel. We recommend seeing them around feeding time when the aquarium puts on shows.
There are numerous interesting and surreal sea creatures on show here that are native to Southeast Asia, including Japanese Mitten Lobsters, Knight Gobies, Snowflake Moray Eels, Blue Devil Damsels, Green Carpet Anemones, Mudskippers, and many other fascinating species. Don’t miss the vanishing garden eels or the glowing jellyfish.
There are some dangerous underwater species in the Venomous and Poisonous Creatures area. The Moray Eels and Lionfish may appear friendly and docile, but they conceal lethal weapons beneath their needle-sharp teeth and spiny fins. Sea snakes, rockfish, and lionfish are just a few of the marine animals that you can find here.
The Aquarium Education service offers a wide variety of programs for children. They have an extensive library full of books, magazines, and journals that can be used by researchers or professionals seeking knowledge in teaching development. Langkawi Underwater World also provides practical training to undergraduates in zoology, botany, and marine biology.
